Wuxi Institute of Technology organized a fire drill at 2 pm on September 27, 2022 in order to improve fire safety and risk prevention awareness, increase fire protection knowledge, and enhance self-protection abilities of freshmen. The fire drill includes escape, evacuation and fire fighting. International students and counselors participated in the activity.
This fire drill was organized to help students properly respond to fire accidents and master survival skills, so as to protect life and property safety. At two o’clock in the afternoon when alarm bell rang, all freshmen were evacuated from entrances of three dormitories of Plum, Orchid and Bamboo to the basketball court of Plum Garden in an orderly manner, and quickly queued up as teams. As all students were evacuated in accordance with prepared fire drill plan, it ensured safety of all personnel in the building and avoided stampede when the crowd were in panic. Several formations were made up upon instructor’s direction later on. Students also learned how to use fire extinguisher in smoke in a quick and proper manner and avoid recoil force of fire extinguisher from hurting themselves.
“This firefighting activity is of great significance, which makes me learn how Chinese schools teach students to escape from fire accidents,” Lin Shenlong, an international student said.
Freshmen of Wuxi Institute of Technology and international students actively participated in the fire drill. The activity achieves a great success as it enhances students’ self-rescue capabilities and fire protection awareness, and increases their knowledge of evacuation and fire response. Students learn how to fight fires, escape routes and spirit of team work through the drill, and greatly improve abilities to save themselves and others in emergencies.
