Top 10 Events of WXIT in 2018
1. WXIT Successfully Held the 4th CPC WXIT Congress
On the morning of October 23, WXIT held a meeting to announce the decision of the Education Working Committee of Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee on the adjustment of the institute’s leadership. Zhou Guijin was appointed as the deputy secretary of the party committee, Yang Xueqin, Qiang Weigang, and Wu Huiyuan were appointed as the deputy deans, and Xu Lang was appointed as the secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of WXIT. From December 14th to 15th, WXIT successfully held the 4th CPC WXIT Congress and elected a new party committee and disciplinary committee, Zhu Aisheng, Liu Wenping, Yang Xueqin, Wu Huiyuan, Zhou Guijin, Xu Lang, Xi Xiaowang, Gong Fanghong, Qiang Weigang was elected as members of the Party Committee, and Yu Huiquan, Jiang Ming, Zhou Lufei, Hu Quanyu, Xu Lang, Xi Maolong, and Chu Kaifeng were elected as members of the Disciplinary Committee. The conference drew a new blueprint for further development, and stated the historical mission, development goals, guiding principles, key tasks and work measures of the institute in the new era. The First Plenary Session of the Fourth Party Committee elected Zhu Aisheng as the Party Secretary, and Gong Fanghong and Zhou Guijin as Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee. At the meeting, the election results of the first plenary meeting of the Commission for Discipline Inspection were passed. Xu Lang was elected as the secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection and Hu Quanyu was elected as the deputy secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection.
2. WXIT Being One of the Four Vocational Colleges in China Shortlisted in All the Top 50 Lists of Vocational Colleges
On July 15, the 2018 China Higher Vocational Education Quality Annual Report was released in Beijing, and WXIT was shortlisted in the top 50 national higher vocational colleges for teaching resources, international influence, and service contributions. On September 4, the Vocational Education and Adult Education Department of the Ministry of Education announced the results of the top 50 internship management cases of national vocational colleges, and our institute was on the list. There are only 4 vocational colleges in the country that have won all 4 top 50 Grand Slams this year. In 2018, WXIT also ranked sixth in China in the competitiveness ranking of higher vocational colleges in China for the third consecutive year.
3. WXIT Selected as A High-level Higher Vocational College Construction Unit in Jiangsu Province
On January 30, the Provincial Department of Education and the Department of Finance jointly issued the Announcement of the List of High-level Higher Vocational College Construction Unit in Jiangsu Province, and announced 22 High-level Higher Vocational College Construction Unit in Jiangsu Province, and WXIT is listed among them. At the 2018 Advanced Equipment Manufacturing Industry-Education Integration Development Forum and the Work Meeting of the Machinery Guiding Committee held on November 23, WXIT was awarded the National High-level Backbone Vocational College Serving Advanced Manufacturing with National Machinery Industry. On July 20, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education officially announced the results of a new round of selection of model Marxist colleges and 13 Marxist colleges in the province, including the Marxist College of our institute, were recognized as training sites for model Marxist colleges in the province.
4.Teachers from WXIT Selected into the Provincial Talent Project Remarkable Progress in Talent Building
On June 13, Zheng Yueyuan, a teacher of WXIT was awarded the title of 2017 Jiangsu University Counselor of the Year. Only 10 university counselors in the province won this honor. On July 19, the Provincial Department of Education announced the candidates for the Navigation·Sailing program of 2018 Jiangsu University Outstanding Young Ideological and Political Theory Teachers. 20 colleges and universities in the province were included. Dr. Zhou Chunlan, the dean of the School of Marxism of our institute, was selected. In addition, 9 teachers and 1 teaching team were included in the provincial Qinglan Project and the 333 Talent Project. Professor Guo Qiong’s industrial robot technology application studio was awarded the honor of Wuxi Famous Teacher Studio, and Dr. Feng Zhen was awarded the title of Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contribution of Wuxi, and Professor Gu Jing was honored as National Outstanding Contributor to Vocational Education in Machinery Industry.
5.WXIT Students Won Awards at the Challenge Cup and Mathematical Modeling Contest
The student work Multifunctional Ultrasonic Detector won the special prize in the 2018 Challenge Cup—Rainbow Life National Vocational College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held from August 13th to 17th. From October 19 to 21, 11 student works won awards at the Invention Cup the 13th National Higher Vocational College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, including 6 first prizes and 5 third prizes. On November 23, students of WXIT participated in the 2018 Higher Education Press Cup National University Students Mathematical Modeling Contest and won 2 first prizes and 1 second prize. This year, WXIT students also won 3 first prizes and 1 second prize in the National Higher Mathematics Competition, and 2 first prizes in the National Vocational College Skills Competition for e-commerce skills and computer network application; 1 first prize in the undergraduate category of the Jiangsu Provincial Contest on the Innovative Production of Scientific and Technological Works in Physics Experiment, 13 first prizes in the provincial higher mathematics competition for non-science majors, 5 first prizes in the provincial electronic design competition, 1 first prize in the provincial university student knowledge contest (science and engineering group), 1 first prize for provincial graduation design (thesis) and 3 provincial excellent graduation design teams.
6. WXIT Approved as a Supporting Unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China More Scientific and Technological Innovation Platforms for WXIT
On November 20, the National Natural Science Foundation of China issued the Announcement on the Registration and Approval Results of the Supporting Units of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2018. WXIT was listed in the supporting units of the National Natural Science Foundation of China with one finished project and three undergoing projects. In 2018, the Jiangsu Province Smart Factory Warehouse Logistics Engineering Technology Center, Jiangsu Province Difficult-to-Process Parts Engineering Technology R&D Center, and Wuxi Internet of Things Information Integration Key Technology Public Service Platform applied by WXIT were approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Jiangsu Department of Education and Wuxi Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, making the number and quality of our institute’s engineering research center and other platforms rank the first among all higher vocational colleges in the province. In addition, WXIT has also obtained the first US invention patent, presided over the first national standard of Technical Specifications for Visualized Management System of Production Sites, and the level of applied technology research and social service capabilities have been continuously improved.
7.WXIT School of Ireland Approved as a Chinese-foreign Cooperatively-run Education Institution with Non-independent Legal Person Status
In July of this year, approved by Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and filed with the Ministry of Education, WXIT School of Ireland, a Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run education institution with non-independent legal person status, was established, becoming one of the eight higher vocational colleges in the country that set up Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run education institutions with non-independent legal person status. The Irish College is jointly established by our institute and Ireland’s Athlone Institute of Technology. It offers 4 majors in mechatronics technology, applied electronic technology, mold design and manufacturing, and advertising design and production. It will start enrolling students in 2019, and each major will enroll 30 students. The school was also selected in the first batch of 20 China-ASEAN Special Cooperation Projects of Higher Vocational Colleges. The internationalization of education of WXIT has reached a new level.
8.Wuxi Academician Hall Completed and Unveiled, Adding a New Landmark for Cultural Education
On the morning of October 17, the Wuxi Academician Hall was officially completed on the first floor of the International Exchange Center of Taihu Campus. City leader Yuan Fei and others unveiled the plate for the Academician Hall. The Wuxi Academician Hall has attracted teachers and students of our institute and people from all sectors of life to visit, and has become an important platform for inheriting the academician culture and promoting the academician spirit. This is another cultural education place in our institute after Wuxi Celebrity Garden.
9.WXIT Rated as Excellent Level in the Employment and Entrepreneurship Assessment of College Graduates in Jiangsu Province
In September this year, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education launched a special inspection on the employment and entrepreneurship of college graduates in the province in 2018. In November, the Provincial Department of Education published assessment result of the special inspection on the employment and entrepreneurship of college graduates in the province in 2018, and our institute was rated as the Excellent Unit in the Assessment of Employment and Entrepreneurship of College Graduates in 2018.
10. The North Gate of WXIT Taihu Campus Completed
On the morning of November 19th, WXIT held the opening ceremony of the north gate of Taihu campus. The reconstructed north gate imitates the shape of the lathe, which reflects our institute’s commitment to the training of highly skilled talents in advanced manufacturing and emerging industries; the granite facade is solemn and elegant; the large-span shape realizes the separation of people and vehicles and meets the demand for the convergence of double traffic flows. The north gate replicates the former gate of Zhongqiao campus and provides a place for alumni to relive the memories of the old days. In 2018, the construction of the Industry-education Integration Building broke ground, and the institute was also rated as a leader for energy efficiency among all public institutions in Jiangsu Province.
